PERMIT TO CARRY
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING AN APPLICATION

Falsification of information on any of the firearm’s applications, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-10c, is a third-degree crime and may result in criminal charges against you.


All Permit to carry applications must be completed online at: State of NJ Application for Permit to Carry


Additional Paperwork:
  1. $50.00 payment to the State of New Jersey will be made will be made online during application process.
  2. $150.00 fee to the New Milford Police Department or payment can be made through Payment
Please Note:
  • Failing to adhere strictly to these instructions will result in a delay in the submission of your application.
  • Improperly prepared applications will not be accepted or processed.
  • On 12/22/2022 changes to the application procedure were made, most notably, the removal of the Superior Court from the application process. The Issuing Authority of the NJ Carry Permit to Carry a Handgun will now be the police department of the jurisdiction in which you reside. This is not the final version of the application packet and will be pending further changes as updated forms are released by the NJSP.
  • The required written firearms qualification in accordance with N.J.A.C. 13:54-2.4(B), can be obtained at most firearms ranges throughout the State. A list of these ranges is also available via the NJSP Website.
    • YOUR PERMIT WILL EXPIRE TWO YEARS FROM THE DATE IT WAS ISSUED. YOU WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED BY US TO COME IN FOR A RENEWAL - THAT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
    • IF YOUR CARRY PERMIT EXPIRES YOU CAN NOT CARRY A HANDGUN IN NEW JERSEY.
    • PLAN ON BEGINNING YOUR RENEWAL PROCESS APPROXIMATLY 60-90 DAYS FROM THE EXPIRATION DATE OF YOUR CURRENT CARRY PERMIT.
    • IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT APPLICANTS MAKE AND KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS FOR THEIR OWN RECORDS.
